Visions and Consolations by Don McCormick

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Speaking confidently about what you want to happen is not as easy as running down the future. There are ways to sound wise when promoting disaster. There is no way to push a rosy vision of the future or to bring along people whose lives and fortunes are on the line. Strangers are often more willing to share your vision and get on your train than are friends and family. Usually, with strangers, you have to make commitments you never wanted to make and promises you will find hard to keep. If you had all of the resources you needed to do what you want to do the way you want to do it, then the rise or fall of your enterprise would be just like the mistakes God makes. To be alone and to see your truth and your vision swallow the universe is to be without consolation. It is death. You will need to worship something and it will never be fulfilling. That is the gulf between man and his visions.
